For three quarters, the Phoenix girls' basketball team went toe-to-toe with North Valley.
Some key outside shooting as well as big nights from a pair of freshmen posts helped the Pirates stay with the host Knights as they trailed 26-22 entering the final quarter. The fourth quarter was a different story as North Valley used a 10-0 run on the way to a 46-30 win over PHS.
Early shooting by Taylor DeVry jumpstarted the Pirates, who trailed 18-13 at halftime. Freshman Delani Parent took over from there, scoring a team-high 12 points. Meanwhile, classmate Josie Bolstad grabbed 11 rebounds while blocking a pair of shots. DeVry finished with nine points for the Pirates, who are 0-7 in the Skyline Conference and 3-17 overall.
The Pirates return to action Thursday, visiting Henley.
