The Phoenix girls' basketball team finished a game, and a season, in style.

Trailing much of the night, the Pirates closed the third quarter wih a flurry and got after visiting Klamath Union defensively in the final quarter on the way to a 43-42 win over the visiting Pelicans on Friday night.

The win snapped an 10-game slide and was the first in Skyline Conference play for PHS, which finished the season 4-19 overall and 1-9 in the conference.

Senior Taylor DeVry finished with 22 points and closed the third quarter with five straight points. DeVry's flurry tied the game at 32 heading into the final stanza. The Phoenix defense took over from there, limiting Klamath Union to only seven fourth-quarter points before the Pelicans hit a three-point basket at the buzzer to pull within one.

DeVry added seven steals and five rebounds while Bella Lopez finished with 13 points. DeVry, Lopez and Brooke Kentner are the three seniors who finished their PHS careers.

Josie Bolstad grabbed 10 rebounds and Maggie Carrillo seven for the Pirates, who avenged an earlier four-point loss to KU.
