The Phoenix girls' basketball team is committed to making a statement this season....home or away the Pirates will battle from start to finish.

PHS did just that in its two most recent games, giving Woodburn and Douglas all they wanted in a pair of non-conference contests.

Last Friday the Pirates (3-4 on the season) hit the road, taking on host Woodburn in a 31-26 loss. Phoenix rallied and led late in the game before Woodburn used a 7-0 run to grab the win.

Twelve points from Maggie Carrillo and 10 from Josie Bolstad. Cristal Tellez grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

After getting home late, the Pirates were back on the court Saturday, hosting Douglas in a 47-40 loss. The visiting Trojans pulled away from a 21-21  halftime tie, outscoring Phoenix 16-10 in the third quarter. Seventeen points from Carrillo and nine from Delani Parent led the Pirates. 

Phoenix returns to action Friday when it will travels to Elmira.
