A rash of early turnovers early in the game proved too costly for the Phoenix girls’ basketball team to overcome Friday night.
The Pirates turned the ball over early and often, falling behind by 16 points after one quarter of a 52-37 home loss to Skyline Conference power Hidden Valley.
After the rough first quarter, Phoenix outscored the Mustangs 35-34 the rest of the game.
Maggie Carrillo scored 10 points and Delani Parent nine for the Pirates (6-13 overall, 0-5 in conference). Phoenix returns to action Tuesday at North Valley.
