The Phoenix girls' basketball team is off to a 2-0 start after winning its own tournament to open the season.
The Pirates downed St. Mary's 61-44 and Klamath Union 55-43 to claim honors in the annual event, which concluded on December 7.
Cristal Tellez scored 13 points and made five steals in the win over Klamath Union in the title game. Morgan James and Josie Bolstad added 12 points each in the win. A night earlier, Bolstad opened the season with 23 points and 16 rebounds while Lola Lumbreras added 13 points in the wire-to-wire win over St. Mary's.
Ranked third in the state, Phoenix returns to action Friday against Woodburn before taking on rival Ashland at Southern Oregon University on Saturday.
