Lady Pirates win four times to close December

Even a postponed game to close 2021 couldn't take momentum away from the Phoenix girls' basketball team.
The Pirates are 6-5 to close 2021. Their game on Dec. 30 at Brookings was postponed due to health and safety protocols and will likely be made up in January.
A pair of wins to close out the Christmas Classic Tournament in Medford helped take the sting out of a late 31-29 loss to Eagle Point in the opening round of the tournament. PHS bounced back with a 33-32 win over North Valley before downing Ashland 37-21 to claim fourth place in the event.
Annabelle Delgado and Makynna Nolan both hit big three-point baskets in the comeback win over North Valley. The scored was tied at 32-32 when Kyla Potratz was fouled with less than a second to play and hit a free throw to provide the margin of victory. Delgado had a game-high 18 points while Morgan James grabbed 10 rebounds.
Delgado scored 12 points and James 11 in the win over Ashland the next day. James also had 12 rebounds and six steals.
Ruby Rector, Potratz and Nolan join Delgado and James in the team's starting rotation.
Ranked 18th in the state, the Pirates won four of six games to close the month of December. They will return to action on January 7 and 8 when they take part in a the Skyline-SkyEm Crossover Tournament in Florence.
