The Phoenix girls' basketball team was on the brink of another big win Tuesday night before a lack of execution and struggles at the free throw line doomed the Pirates in a 38-30 Skyline Conference loss at Mazama.
PHS led for much of the game before the host Vikings went on a 14-8 scoring run in the final eight minutes of the game. The Pirates had chances to stay in the game but suffered several key turnovers and hit only six of 17 free throws in the contest.
Kynna Nolan scored a team-high 12 points and Morgan James grabbed 11 rebounds in the contest. Phoenix is 1-5 in conference play and 7-12 overall heading into a home contest on Friday against Klamath Union.
