Statistics can say whatever you want them to say. Friday night at Henley, they told a pretty accurate story as the Phoenix girls' basketball team dropped a 56-41 decision to the host Hornets in a Skyline Conference match-up.
The Pirates were outshot and outrebounded by monster margins, including 77 shots for Henley to 39 for Phoenix. The offensive rebounding difference was even more stunning as the Hornets muscled their way to 26 boards while PHS managed only four.
The game was still relatively close despite the statistical imbalance. Phoenix (1-3 in the Skyline, 9-9 overall and ranked 22nd in the state) opened an early 7-2 lead before finding itself trailing 14-9 after one quarter and 23-15 at halftime. The Henley advantage hovered around 10 points the rest of the way.
Morgan James finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Pirates who got 16 points from Anabell Delgado and seven from Ruby Rector.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday when they visit Mazama.
