The pieces are falling into place for the Phoenix girls’ basketball team.
The Pirates won four of five games in an eight-day stretch (their only loss was a one-point setback) and are 7-4 as the season nears the halfway point.
With only six varsity players, Phoenix is winning games with timely shooting, ball movement and solid defense. The Pirates are ranked 12th in the 4A classification.

PHOENIX 40, NORTH VALLEY 28: Alissa Alvarez recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds to go with five assists and Phoenix withstood a rough outing from the field to wrap up the Christmas Classic on December 23.
Anabell Delgado added 17 points and three steals and Mae Woodward had four assists and six rebounds for the Pirates, who shot 30% from the field in the early morning contest but held North Valley to 26% shooting.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 51, PHOENIX 50: Cascade Christian junior Emma Coats was fouled on a drive to the basket and made 1-of-2 free throws in the final seconds to help push the host Challengers over the top at the Christmas Classic on December 22.
Coats finished with seven points, while Cascade Christian (3-3) got a double-double from Jordynn Jones with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Isabel McCauley contributed 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Alissa Alvarez led Phoenix (6-4) with 20 points, five assists and five rebounds and Anabell Delgado had 15 points, six assists and three steals. Mae Woodward pulled in 10 rebounds.

PHOENIX 43, ST. MARY’S 26: Phoenix had a scoring lift from Anabell Delgado and Alissa Alvarez as they dropped 16 points and four 3-pointers each in the Christmas Classic opener at Cascade Christian High on December 21.
The Pirates (6-3) held the Crusaders (1-4) to single digits in every period en route to the victory.
St. Mary’s was led by senior center Maddie Ward's 15 points, and got seven points from freshman guard Ella Yeamans.

PHOENIX 41, DOUGLAS 25: At Winston, senior Anabell Delgado dropped in 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and went 5-for-9 on 3-point attempts for Phoenix as she almost lapped Douglas in points on December 19.
Delgado also came away with six steals, five rebounds and a block.
The Pirates (5-3) got six points from Mira Jacobs-Grigsby and held the Trojans (1-8) to only two points in the first quarter.

PHOENIX 67, ASHLAND 35: At Ashland, Phoenix junior Alissa Alvarez scored a career-high 25 points and senior Anabell Delgado added 22 to help the Pirates easily dispatch Ashland at Lithia Motors Pavilion on December 16.
Alvarez also finished with seven rebounds, five steals and four assists for Phoenix (4-3), while Delgado had six steals, six assists and five rebounds. Mae Woodward contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Wynn Pistole scored 10 points and Skye Pokrob added seven points for Ashland (1-4), which fell behind 19-6 after one quarter.
