North Valley showed why it is the defending state champions, downing visiting Phoenix 10-1 in a Skyline Conference match on Thursday in Merlin.
The loss dropped the Pirates to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in league play. PHS returns to action on Saturday, visiting Sutherlin. The Pirates will return to conference play on Monday at Henley.
