Crater tops Pirates in opener

The Phoenix girls' soccer team opened the season on Tuesday, dropping a 5-0 decision to visiting Crater at Colver Field.

While the Comets scored early and controlled the contest, PHS showed plenty of positive signs as the match progressed. Seniors Lupita Alegria and Maggie Carrillo led the Pirates' midfield attack while Alex Hernandez found the net in the second half, only to have the goal disallowed due to an offsides call.

Phoenix returns to action on September 11, visiting Marshfield.
