A chance to advance to the 4A State Playoffs wasn't quite in the cards for the Phoenix girls' soccer team on Friday afternoon in Molalla.
After earning the final play-in spot, the Pirates hit the road and traveled north where they led early before dropping a 3-1 decision to the host Indians.
Sandra Villa gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead when she beat Molalla for a goal midway through the first half. The Indians went on to score three unanswered goals to advance to the OSAA's Round of 16 on Tuesday.
Emma Truex turned back 19 of 22 shots she faced in goal for Phoenix, which finished 3-9-2 overall.
