After a challenging spring, the Phoenix girls soccer team opened the 2021 fall soccer season style.
The Pirates rolled past host Cottage Grove 7-0 in a non-conference soccer match in Cottage Grove on September 2. Sofia Rodriguez led the scoring parade with a hat trick as the junior netted goals in the ninth, 26th and 49th minutes.
Rodriguez received plenty of support from a strong freshmen class as Carsyn Gallegos and Anahi Villa both scored two goals in their high school debuts.
Maria Pyeatt worked the shutout in goal with relatively light action around the net as the Phoenix defense kept the Lions at bay.
