Youth is serving the Phoenix girls' soccer team well.
Off to 2-0 start, the Pirates have outscored opponents 13-0 on the young season, with wins over Cottage Grove and Cascade Christian.
Both wins have included hat tricks for the Pirates, who were winless in the abbreviated spring season. Junior Sofia Rodriguez had three goals in the 7-0 win over Cottage Grove on Sept. 2 while freshman Amahi Villa found the net three times in Saturday's 6-0 win over visiting Cascade Christian.
Carsyn Gallegos and Villa both added two goals against Cottage Grove. Gallegos, Izzy Sellers and Anabell Delgado all added goals against Cascade.
Maria Pyeatt worked the shutout in goal at Cottage Grove while Jaden Vos had a clean sheet against Cascade Christian. Ruby Rector, Morgan James and Mady Mayer anchored a stellar Phoenix defense in both wins.
The Pirates returned to action last Friday, dropping a 7-1 decision at North Medford. Phoenix will open Skyline Conference play on Thursday when it visits Mazama.
