Defense propels soccer girls to win

Another strong defensive effort helped the Phoenix girls' soccer team score its first win of the season.

Coming off a 2-2 tie against Eagle Point, the Pirates scored a 1-0 non-conference victory at Cottage Grove on Monday night.

Anahi Carranza-Villa connected on her third goal of the season for the lone Pirate score. Her goal came in the first half and held up as the Phoenix defense shut down the host Lions throughout the night. The Pirates had numerous scoring opportunities throughout the night but weren't to add any more goals.

Phoenix is 1-2-1 on the season heading into a non-conference friendly at Crater on Saturday afternoon.
