The Phoenix volleyball team didn't take advantage of a chance to wrap up a 4A play-in spot on Thursday night.
With the opportunity to secure third place in the Skyline Conference, the host Pirates dropped a four-set match to North Valley. PHS won the second set 25-15 but fell 25-13, 25-22 and 25-13 in the other three.
Abi George had three aces and five digs for the Pirates, who got 4 kills from Kassidy Calhoun, and two from Katelyn Hanson, McKenna Page and Lexi Smith.
The loss dropped the Pirates to 4-5 in conference play while North Valley improved to 3-6. Phoenix hosts Henley on Tuesday night while North Valley entertains Mazama. If Phoenix and North Valley end the regular season in a tie, North Valley would advance to the play-in round based off two wins over the Pirates this season.
PHS will play in the Marshfield Invitational on Saturday before taking on Henley Tuesday.
