HENLEY HIGH SCHOOL: 3

Despite no achieving its ultimate goal, the Phoenix volleyball team accomplished plenty in Klamath Falls Thursday night.

The Pirates took the first two sets from host Henley in the Skyline Conference opener for both teams, winning 25-18 and 25-20. While the Hornets took the final three sets (25-11, 25-21 and 15-11), PHS sent a message that’s ready to compete with anyone and any court in the Skyline.

Phoenix kept Henley from taking control at the net in the first two sets, effectively using its trio of 6-foot players (Josie Bolstad, Celeste McKinnon and Delani Parent). The Pirates’ “tall timber” consistently blocked at the net as their team led from the start of both sets.

After Henley rolled in the third set to stay alive, the fourth set was up for grabs until the Hornets secured win. Set five found Henley leading early. Strong serviing from Pirate freshman Raelyssa Goff tied the contest at the midway point until Henley again pulled away to secure the set and the match.

Senior setter Sophia Tringolo finished the night with 12 assists, three blocks, three kills and two aces. Makenna Page finished with seven kills and two digs, Bolstad six kills and three blocks and katelyn Hanson five kills, two aces and a block.
