The Phoenix volleyball team completed its early-season tour of Klamath County schools with an impressive win on Thursday night.
Playing a Klamath school for the third time in as many Skyline Conference matches, the Pirates rallied for a five-set victory over visiting Klamath Union. PHS split the first four sets (losing 25-16 and 25-12 while winning 25-21 and 28-26) before scoring a decisive 15-5 win in the fifth set to claim the match.
Phoenix improved to 2-1 in the conference play and will take on the Three Rivers schools next week, visiting league-leading Hidden Valley on Tuesday before hosting North Valley on Thursday.
Against KU, the Pirates got four big serving aces from Josie Bolstad in the decisive final game. Bolstad added six kills on the night. Seniors McKenna Page (10 kills) and Katelyn Hanson (eight kills) also came up big at the net. Anna Ellis handed out 18 assists in the nearly two-hour match.
The Pirates will also be in action on Saturday when they take part in the Elmira Tournament.
