A chance to grab second-place midway through the Skyline Conference volleyball season didn't materialize for Phoenix on Thursday night.
The Pirates dropped a match in four sets at North Valley, falling 25-20, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-15. Phoenix is 2-3 in conference play and 3-12 overall.
After splitting the first two sets, the Pirates led late in the third set but were unable to put the win away in the two-point setback. North Valley led throughout the fourth set to secure the win.
Jourden Devey's 38 digs paced the Phoenix defense. Josie Bolstad finished with 15 kills and six blocks.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday at Henley.
