Vos brings home 3rd from State

Robby Vos brought home a medal from the OSAA State Cross Country Meet on Saturday.
While the senior hoped to bring a gold back to Phoenix High School, he had to settle for bronze (third place) for a second straight year after breathing troubles derailed during the Class 4A race at Lane Community College in Eugene.
Vos hadn't been ill prior to the race but had chest issues during the 5K event. He toured the course in 16 minutes, 47 seconds. John Kavulich of Scapoose, who Vos has dueled with throughout his career, won in 16:23. He and Kavulich were the top returners from last year's state event and had the top times entering Saturday's race on a cool and windy day at LCC.
Vos' finish earned him a spot in the Nike Border Clash, an annual event pitting the top runners from Oregon against those from Washington, later this month in Portland.
Lupita Alegria represented Phoenix in the girls' race, finishing 44th in 21:33.
