De La Torre turns in top PHS finish

The Big Cat had a big finish for the Phoenix wrestling team at the Coast Classic.
Ishmael De La Torre paced the Pirates in the annual event in North Bend, finishing fifth in the heavyweight division over the weekend. The senior finished 5-2 in the event, which annually draws some of the top wrestling schools in the state.
Other Pirates who had solid weekends included Elijah Leonis and Elijah Santana, both winning three matches.
As a team, Phoenix scored 41 points, the third-best total among 4A schools at the tournament.
The Pirates return to action Thursday when they will take part in a three-team dual at Eagle Point before heading to the Grants Pass Tournament this weekend.
