Shepherd fifth in state backstroke

Alec Shepherd brought home a fifth-place finish from the OSAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Gresham.
The Phoenix junior posted a time of 1:00.47 in the finals of the 100-meter backstroke on Saturday. A day earlier, he posted a mark of 1:00.59 in the preliminaries. Shepherd earned two points for the Pirates in the process.
He also took part in the 100 butterfly and did not make the finals.
