Final regular season event sets stage for districts

Game Date
Feb 4, 2022

The Phoenix swimming teams are ready for the next step.

The Pirates completed the regular season on Friday, putting together a solid day during an event in Grants Pass. PHS returns to action Friday when it take part in the two-day district meet in Cottage Grove.

Coach Heath provided the following  recap of Fridays event...the Valley Invitational meet turned out smaller than planned because two teams backed out due to Covid concerns. Regardless, our athletes reached many new PR's, great experience, and confidence! Now we're ready for Districts next weekend.

Our girls team placed 2nd overall. Their 200 free relay reached our goal to break the 2 minute barrier with a 1:58.9 placing 4th and then they won the 400 free relay. Top performances came from Heidi Taylor (2nd-200 free, 2nd-100 fly), Emily Montoya (2nd-500 free), Sophie Stubblefield (2nd-100 breaststroke, 3rd -100 free.) and Laurelin Jansen (2nd-100 back). Their relay successes came with great contributions from Rose Moser in both relays and Ariah Potts, who swam a leg of the goal breaking 200 free relay.

Our boys team placed 3rd overall with top performances from Sean Donohue (2nd-500 free) and Elwood Hosking (2nd-200 free) and Makaio Potts (3rd-100 fly). River Delco and Zyan Shull-Bain joined Elwood and Makaio to set a season low mark of 4:13 and taking 2nd in the 400 free relay.

It's a great day to be a pirate!
