PHS is State-bound in three events

The Phoenix girls' swimming team put together an outstanding meet both as a team and individually at the district event in Cottage Grove last weekend.

The Pirates finished third with 218 points in the 10-team event that spanned two days. Heidi Taylor was fourth in the 100 butterfly and advances to the OSAA State Meet this Saturday in Tualatin. The senior is also part of a pair of state-bound relay teams, joining Sophia Stubblefield, Ariah Potts and Jaxon Moser in both the 200 and 400 relays. Taylor and both relays qualified for state based on their finals times.

Other top finishes for the Phoenix girls included Stubblefield seventh int he 50 freestyle, Emily Montoya fifth in the 500 free and eighth in the 200 free, Laurelin Jensen sixth in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 100 free and the 200 Medley relay team of Jansen, Potts, Rowen Wiley and Kyah Neeley seventh.

The Phoenix boys placed sixth in the team event with 161 points and were just 10 points out of fourth place. Makaio Potts was fifth in the 100 butterfly, Elwood Hosking seventh in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Zyan Shull-Bain sixth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 free and Sean Donohue eighth in the 500 free. . The 400 freestyle relay team of Hosking,  Shull-Bain, Potts and River Delco was fifth while the same quartet was sixth in the 200 freestyle relay.
