A quartet of underclassmen from Phoenix will represent the Pirates at the 4A State Track and Field Meet in Florence this weekend.

Kyla Potratz, Sophia Stubblefield, Elwood Hosking and Fa Masolosalo qualified at the Skyline Track and Field Meet in Klamath Falls.

Potratz and Stubblefield earned the meet's top female distance runner award after taking 1-2 in the 1500 and 3000-meter runs. Stubblefield won the 3000 on Friday, edging Potratz by .20 of a second before Potratz took honors over Stubblefield in the 1500 on Saturday by .44 of a second.

Hosking used a late surge to take honors in the 1500 on Saturday afternoon. The junior finished in 4:09.87, edging Patrick Clayburn of North Valley in the race's final meters.

Masalosalo finished second in the discus to earn his spot at state, tossing a best of 125-9. He finished third in the shot put, missing a state spot by just over six inches.

Potratz is a sophomore while the other three are juniors.

The state event will be held at Siuslaw High School in Florence.
