Big numbers mean considerable depth for the Phoenix High School track and field teams in 2024.
With nearly 100 student-athletes in the program, the Pirates have the kind of numbers that will speak volumes in big meets, including the Skyline Conference Meet at PHS on May 10-11.
Through a pair of early-season meets Phoenix is boasting considerable depth in a variety of events both on the track and in the field. Seven Pirate boys threw the javelin at least 90 feet earlier in the week at Hidden Valley while seven Pirates were among the top 10 finishers in the 200-meter dash in the same meet.
Several newcomers are also impressing, including senior sprinter and jumper Robin Trenbeath and junior Wyatt Dean (javelin) while veterans like Kael Feeley (distances), Brayden Decker (high jump) and Cash Stallsworth (throws) continue to put up marks that helped them qualify for state last season.
Senior Brissa Bauer (hurdles and jumps), junior Laurelin Jansen (pole vault) and sophomres Eli Palmer (javelin) and Cody Martin (sprints) are also making a splash, as is a deep freshmen class where the Pirates are picking up points in a variety of events.
