The Phoenix cross country teams ventured to Klamath Falls for a look at the course they'll run on at the Skyline District Championships next month.

The Pirate girls finished second while the boys were fifth in the Pre-District event, held at Steens Sports Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophia Stubblefield and Lupita Alegria led the girls, finishing seventh and eighth respectively, Stubblefield in 28 minutes, 13 seconds and Alegria in 28:14. Other top PHS finishers included Jasper  Cortell (12th in 28:23), Clare Mathewson (14th in 28:27) and Mariana Contreras (15th in 28:28).

The girls compiled 45 teams points.

Dilan Mathieu and Noah Marshall finished together for the boys, sharing eighth place in 20:09. Yovanni Bazan-Chavez was 12th in 20:45, Hayden Erwin 35th in 23:04, Adoniram Gamez 41st in 23:59 and Atreyu Stinson 42nd in 24:00.

The Pirates return to action on Saturday when they will take part in the Northwest Classic at Lane Community College in Eugene.
