XC steps up at Northwest Classic

Three Phoenix cross country runners moved up with the big schools at the Northwest Classic on Saturday.
Noah Marshall (16 minutes, 52 seconds), Lupita Allegria (20:49) and Sophia Stubblefield (20:55) competed in the 5A-6A division at the event, which was held at Lane Community College in Eugene. By moving up with larger schools, the trio allowed additional Pirates to compete as part of the team scoring in the 1A-4A race.
Shelby Platt was the top PHS finisher in the team scoring, finishing 45th in 22:47. Four other Pirates were within a few seconds of Platt as the girls finished 10th in team points despite Allegria and Stubblefield not counting.
Meanwhile, Dilan Matthieu was 35thin 18:39 to lead the boys, who finished 12th as a team.
The Pirates return to action Saturday when they will take part in the Rogue XC meet at Colver Fields in Talent.
