Both Phoenix XC teams 6th at State

The Phoenix High School cross country teams were on a mission the past two Saturdays!

Mission Accomplished!!!

Both teams qualified for Saturday's 4A State Championships with impressive efforts at the Skyline Conference championships at Valley of the Rogue State Park in Rogue River. Thanks to the their efforts, they will compete at the 4A State Championships in Eugene on Saturday.

At the State Meet in Eugene, both teams finished sixth in their respective races. Kyla Potratz led the Pirate girls, placing eighth overall to earn a second-team all-state spot while Elwood Hosking led the boys, placing 13th and also picking up second-team all-state honors. Sophia Stubblefield (21st) and Noah Marshall (18th) were both recognized as third-team all-state runners.

The Pirate girls edged Klamath Union by one point for team honors at the Skyline Championships a week earlier. Phoenix finished with 34 points while KU had 35. Kyla Potratz is the individual district champ, finishihng in 21 minutes, six seconds to lead PHS. Teammate Sophia Stubblefield was second (21:26) and Ava Robinson eighth (22:31) to round out the top Phoenix finishers.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix boys earned their State trip by finishing second to Skyline champion Hidden Valley to earn their trip to Eugene. Elwood Hosking's fourth-place finish led the Pirates (16:56). Dilan Mathieu (eighth) and Noah Marshall (10th) rounded out the top Pirate finishers.
