While it's still very early, the Phoenix cross country teams got a preview of their fortunes for the 2022 season on Wednesday afternoon.
Paced by senior Kyla Potratz, the Pirate girls finished third as a team at the Skyline Pre-District meet in Rogue River. Potratz was second to Keira Welch of Henley, finishing in 22:57.5 seconds. Other Pirate finishers who contributed to the scoring included Brisa Bauer (ninth in 24:56.6), Joanna Siordia (11th in 25:09.6), Ava Robinson (14th in 25:37.8) and Sylvia Platt (22nd in 26:42.7).
Like the girls, the Phoenix boys also finished third as a team. Junior Kael Feeley finished fifth (18:43.7) and freshman Nathen Hammond sixth (18:44.1) to set the pace for PHS. Marcelo Camargo was the third Phoenix finisher, placing 16th in 19:52.8, Ethan Dobbins was 22nd in 20:39.6 and Nathan Corona 30th in 22:09.
The Skyline teams will gather again on Oct. 27 in Rogue River for the district meet. Meanwhile, Phoenix has a challenging schedule leading up to the district meet, starting with a trip to the Northwest Classic in Eugene on Saturday.
