Pirate Win: 11 - 10
The Phoenix softball team is starting to warm up! And move up in the state rankings.
The Pirates improved to 4-0 in the Skyline Conference and 6-7 overall, climbing to 13th in the state with an 11-10 win over North Valley on Wednesday afternoon. The win was the fourth straight for PHS as it heads into a Saturday doubleheader at North Valley.
Phoenix overcame an early 3-0 deficit and broke a 10-10 in the bottom of the seventh inning to down North Valley. Sophomore Kendall Heywood singled home Morgan James with the winning run. James opened the inning with a double. Raelyssa Goff struck out 14 while collecting a pair of hits. James and Alexis Dial also added two hits.
Phoenix trailed 10-4 midway through the game before putting on its rally caps.
Goff has been doing the majority of the pitching for the Pirates. Sophomore Jaydin Vos also sees time on the mound as does Heywood. Vos and Goff anchor the infield at shortstop. Junior Paityn Croy handles duties at third base, Dial starts at second while Heywood and James both play first base. Sophomore Addi Bright does the catching. Senior Izzy Pair-Gilmore is returning from a pre-season injury and provides depth at first and catcher as well as swinging a big bat.
Outfielders include Violet Harper in left, Carsyn Gallegos in center and a combination of James and seniors Kayla Wilcox and Isabella McGee in right.
