Pirates wrap up football season

Pirate Lose: 7 - 21
After a rough start to the season, the Phoenix football team has been competing over the final month of the spring campaign. The Pirates (0-6) closed their season on Friday when they hosted Douglas on Senior NIght, falling 40-0 to the visiting Trojans at Phoenix-Talent Rising Field at Jack Woodward Stadium. Phoenix fell at North Valley 21-7 on April 2. The Pirates' touchdown came on a pass from Ryan Watts to Marcello Valadez. Kyle Braun added the extra point. PHS fell at North Eugene 40-0 during spring break. Eric Peltier and  Trevor Sharrar both came up with turnovers in the game but Phoenix was unable to muster much offense. A week earlier the Pirates played their best overall game of the season in a 20-9 loss at Klamath Union. Watts and Justin Wilcox connected on a scoring pass while Braun made good on a 32-yard field goal to account for the Pirate scoring.

Pirate Lose: 0 - 68
With a new field and stadium, the Phoenix High School football program is looking to the future. While the Pirates weren't able to score any points in their first two games of the abbreviated season, Phoenix is prepping for an upcoming contest at Klamath Union where it expects to very competitive with the host Pelicans. Like PHS, KU is also is 0-2 on the season. Phoenix is working to clean up a variety of fundamental errors that have been costly in opening losses to Hidden Valley and Henley. The Pirates return to action on Friday with a 7 pm kickoff in Klamath Falls at Klamath Union. The game will be live streamed on www.mybasin.com
