Strong finish for Pirate XC

Phoenix cross country ended the season in style on Saturday.
The Pirates finished sixth as a team in the girls' 4A competition while three runners earned first-team all-state honors on the day at Lane Community College in Eugene.
Senior Sophia Stubblefield closed her high school career by placing second (19:18.90). Just behind her was junior Kyla Potratz (19:20.30) in third. The Pirates scored 139 points as a team and were the top finishers from the Skyline Conference. Siuslaw won the meet with 139 points.
Other Phoenix finishers included Brisa Bauer 49th in 22:44.50, Ava Robinson 52nd in 22:55.60, Heidi Taylor 54th in 23:03.90, Lucy Newell 64th in 23:42.40 and Agatha Hosking 80th in 26:35.90. Taylor and Newell are also seniors.
On the boys' side, Elwood Hosking capped off his cross country career for the Pirates with a third-place finish. Hosking covered the course in 16:49.93 to join Stubblefield and Potratz as first-team all-state honorees.
