The Phoenix boys' soccer team was motivated on Monday night.
After dropping a Skyline Conference match at Hidden Valley last week, the Pirates came out ready for action in an 8-1 thrashing of North Valley in a match at Phoenix-Talent Rising Field.
PHS scored in the game's first minute when Victor Martinez headed home a cross from Jorge Mejia. The Pirates continued to push, building a 5-0 halftime lead on the way to the easy win.
Phoenix improved to 3-1 in the conference and 7-1 overall heading into a showdown at Henley on Wednesday night. The Pirates are ranked third in the state while Henley is currently fourth. Kickoff is set for 6:30 pm at Henley High School.
Martinez went on to finish with four goals while Mejia, Danny Palomino, Cielo Marlia-Larsen and Caden Gallegos all added a score for Phoenix.
