Pirate Win: 11 - 4
Phoenix closed a winning softball season on Saturday, splitting a Skyline Confernece doubleheader at Hidden Valley. After falling short in a 25-22 loss in the first game, the Pirates scored an 11-4 win over the host Mustangs to improve to 8-7 on the Covid-shortened season. An 11-2 deficit after the first inning proved too much to overcome in the opener. The Pirates battled back throughout the game, collecting 14 hits in the process. Addison Brite had four hits while Kassandra Skaff added two. Phoenix regrouped in the nightcap and limited Hidden Valley to nine hits. Raelyssa Goff went the distance on the mound for the Pirates, who got big contributions from freshmen in the game. Julie Johnson hit a three-run triple while Lola Lomberas finished with two hits. Jayden Vos, also a ninth grader, finished with hits and drove in four runs on the day. Three days earlier the Pirates scored five runs in the first and last innings on the way to downing Hidden Valley 15-5 in a Skyline game at Colver Field. Vos had three hits while Skaff added two. Goff was the winning pitcher.
