Games begin "for real" this week

After a couple of busy weeks of preparation, Phoenix HIgh School fall sports teams will start the non-conference portion of their respective schedules this week.

The Pirates will be home for the majority of the week before hitting the road on Saturday for a cross country meet in Eugene.

Games begin on Tuesday with a match-up of Class 4A boys' soccer powers when PHS hosts North Bend in a 2 pm at Colver Field. Both varsity and JV matches are scheduled. Following the boys' contest, the Pirate varsity girls will entertain Marshfield beginning at 4:30.

The action switches to volleyball on Wednesday when Phoenix hosts Brookings beginning at 5 pm. The match was originally slated to be played in Brookings but has been moved due to the ongoing fires in the Brookings area.

Volleyball will also be in action on Thursday when the Pirates entertain South Umpqua.

The scene switches to football on Friday with Jack Woodward Stadium the site of a non-conference battle between visiting Crook County and the Pirates. JV play begins at 4 pm followed by a 7 pm varsity kickoff.
