Pirate Lose: 5 - 6
A solid season came to an end for the Phoenix softball team on Friday afternoon.
The Pirates advanced to the 4A play-in round for the first time in five years, matching up with Cascade HIgh School in Turner. PHS fought back throughout the game, only to drop a 6-5 decision to the Cougars.
Phoenix trailed 3-0 before scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning. Kassandra Skaff's two-run triple provided the fifth-inning runs before Josie Bolstad delivered a three-run triple in the sixth.
Cascade pushed home what proved to be the winning run in the sixth inning.
Raelyssa Goff scattered seven hits in pitching for the Pirates, who finished the season 13-11.

Pirate Win: 23 - 0
Forty-nine runs on 42 hits...that's quite a day for the Phoenix softball team.
The Pirates closed the Skyline Conference season with a sweep of Klamath Union, pounding the Pelicans 26-2 and 23-0 in Klamath Falls on Saturday.
PHS improved to 13-10 overall and finished 8-7 in conference play. A final computer ranking of 18 advances the Pirates to the 4A play-in round where they will visit Cascade High School on Friday for a 4:30 battle, with the winner advancing to the OSAA Round of 16.
A 13-run second inning in the opener and a 10-run second inning in the nightcap put Saturday's games away early for Phoenix. Makenna Page totaled five hits, including a pair of doubles and a home run, in the first game while Rae Goff and Abi George added three hits each. Halie Bowman totalled three hits in the finale.
Claire Mathewson pitched a complete-game six-hitter in the opener before Goff checked KU on just one hit in the shutout during the finale.
Pirates sweep back into playoff race

Pirate Win: 17 - 7
The Phoenix softball team was in need of a sweep on Saturday. And that's exactly what the Pirates got, rolling past visiting Hidden Valley 18-0 and 17-7 in Skyline Conference play at Colver Field.
Coming off a disappointing 4-3 loss to the Mustangs earlier in the week, Phoenix left little doubt that it was ready to play, pounding out 39 hits on the day. A 12-run fourth inning sparked the opening win. PHS scored 10 times in the fifth inning to put away the nightcap.
Josie Bolstad collected seven hits on the day. The sophomore also drove in six runs and scored five times. Halie Bowman and Abi George both had three hits in the opener while Taylor Wallack and Kassandra Skaff had three eachin the second game.
Claire Mathewson posted a complete-game shutout in the first game before comibining with Raelyssa Goff on the win in the second.
The Pirates (10-10 overall, 5-7 in the Skyline) return to action Wednesday, hosting Klamath Union on Senior Day beginning at 5 pm.
Hornets sting Pirates 11-2

Pirate Lose: 2 - 11
Henley used a pair of big innings to turn away the Phoenix softball team on Wednesday afternoon.
The host Hornets scored five times in the second and six in the fifth to down the visiting Pirates 11-2 in a Skyline Conference game in Klamath Falls. the second-inning surge wiped out a quick start for PHS, which got a two-run homer from Halie Bowman in the second inning. Makenna Page added two hits for Phoenix (3-4 in the Skyline, 8-7 overall) which hosts Henley in a doubleheader beginning at 11 am on Saturday.
Pirate sweep back into conference race

Pirate Win: 18 - 15
The Phoenix softball team planted firmly back into the Skyline Conference race on Saturday.
After dropping two pivotal games at North Valley a week earlier, the Pirates pulled off an impressive sweep of a doubleheader at Mazama to even their conference mark at 3-3. Phoenix edged the host Vikings 10-9 in the first game before outslugging Mazama 18-15 in the nightcap, improving to 8-6 overall in the process.
Haley Bowman's bat propelled the Pirates to victory in the opener. The senior homered twice and drove in six runs, including a sixth-inning grand slam. Makenna Page finished with four hits in the opener while Raylyssa Goff earned the win with a complete-game effort.
Page's bat also proved pivotal in the nightcap as the senior infielder blasted a three-run homer in the seventh to break a 15-15 tie. Ashley Gurr finishing with five hits, including her first-ever home run, while Katelyn Hanson collected four of the Pirates' 22 hits in the game. Josie Bolstad, Maggie Carrillo and Bowman all added three hits. Claire Mathewson and Goff combined on the pitching victory.
The Pirates return to action Wednesday, traveling to Henley.
Mazama holds off PHS

Pirate Lose: 8 - 13
A pair of offensive-minded softball teams traded punches on Wednesday afternoon with Mazama having a little more power than Phoenix, downing the Pirates 13-8 in a Skyline Conference game in Talent.
The visiting Vikings pounded out 12 hits and put up 11 runs over the game's final five innings. Meanwhile, Phoenix used the long ball to stay in the game, with home runs from seniors Makenna Page and Halie Bowman. Raylyssa Goff finished with three hits while Page, Bowman and Abi George all added two.
The Pirates found themselves trailing 8-2 midway through the game. The scored four time sin the fifth and twice more in the sixth but were unable to catch Mazma, falling to 1-3 in confernce play and 6-6 overall.
PHS returns to action Saturday, heading to Mazama for a doubleheader.

Pirate Lose: 8 - 9
After a relatively easy win on Wednesday, the Phoenix softball team experienced a pair of disappointing losses on Saturday, falling twice to North Valley in Skyline Conference play in Merlin.
The Pirates scored a 10-run win over the Knights to open the Skyline three days earlier. This time, NV swept a doubleheader, scoring 7-3 and 9-8 wins. North Valley scored three times in the sixth inning to break open a close game. Phoenix scored all of its runs in the second inning, with Josie Bolstad driving in a pair of the runs with a double. Ashley Gurr had two hits in the game. Rae Goff allowed 11 hits in pitching a complete game for PHS.
The teams traded leads during the nightcap, with North Valley eventually scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh to win. The Pirates scored three times in the sixth and one in the seventh to take an 8-7 lead. Halie Bowman, Bolstad and Gurr all had two of the 14 hits Phoenix collected in the game. PHS struggled to stay away from high pitches, flying out 16 times in the contest. Claire Mathewson pitched for the Pirates.
Phoenix (6-5 overall, 1-2 in the conference) returns to action Wednesday, hosting Mazama.

Pirate Win: 14 - 4
The Phoenix softball team got back on track Wednesday at the perfect time.
After opening the season with five straight wins, the Pirates dropped three straight games since spring break came to an end. Wednesday’s 14-4 win over North Valley to open Skyline Conference play provided just what the Pirates needed.
The Pirates led throughout in the win. McKenna Page continued to swing a hot bat for PHS, hitting a thee-run homer to put Phoenix ahead 6-1 after two innings. Phoenix had 15 hits in the game and 12 RBI. Abi George collected three hits and scored three runs in the win. Claire Mathewson was the winning pitcher for Phoenix (6-3 overall), which has a rematch on Saturday with the Knights.

Pirate Win: 11 - 8
A consistent offensive attack produced another victory for the Phoenix softball team on Thursday afternoon.
The Pirates scored in every inning of an 11-8 win over visiting Douglas in a non-conference game at Colver Field. The Pirates totaled 14 hits on the day, including three each from Halie Bowman and Maggie Carrillo while Taylor Wallack and Josie Bolstad added two each. Both Wallack and Bolstad had key hits in a three-run sixth-inning surge that broke an 8-8 tie.
Raylyssa Goff was the winning pitcher, scattering 10 hits. Four Pirate errors led to a pair of big innings for the visiting Trojans, including a four-run sixth that tied the game at 8-8.
Phoenix (2-0) returns to action Tuesday, hosting Ashland in a 4 pm start at Colver Field.
10-run win to open the season

Pirate Win: 18 - 8
The Phoenix softball team was on a roll to start the season.
The Pirates used a pair of seven-run innings to fuel an 18-8 win over five innings over visiting Sutherlin on Tuesday afternoon.
PHS trailed 4-2 when it scored seven times in the second inning. The Pirates added seven more runs in the fourth before forcing the 10-run rule with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Raelyssa Goff scattered five hits in picking up the pitching win for PHS, which returns to action on Thusday when it hosts Douglas. Abi George, Josie Bolstad and Ashley Gurr all had two hits while Haley Bowman added a home run.
