Molalla eliminates PHS from play-in

A chance to advance to the 4A State Playoffs wasn't quite in the cards for the Phoenix girls' soccer team on Friday afternoon in Molalla.  After earning the final play-in spot, the Pirates hit the road and traveled north where they led early before dropping a 3-1 decision to the host Indians. Sandra Villa gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead when she beat Molalla for a goal midway through the first half. The Indians went on to score three unanswered goals to advance to the OSAA's Round of 16 on Tuesday. Emma Truex turned back 19 of 22 shots she faced in goal for Phoenix, which finished 3-9-2 overall.

The Phoenix soccer team continues to prove it can play with some of the top teams in the Skyline Conference and the state! The Pirates played even with North Valley untl the final minutes of the match in a 1-0 loss to the Knights at Colver Field. North Valley improved to 6-1-1 in the Skyline while Phoenix is 1-6-1 with two matches to play. Last week Phoenix fell to conference leader Hidden Valley 1-0. Sandra Villa had four shots on goal while Emma Truex turned away four shots in goal. The Pirates return to action Thursday, hosting Henley.

The Phoenix girls' soccer team again showed it can play with pretty much anyone on the pitch. The Pirates were locked up in a scoreless draw with Hidden Valley for 77 minutes before the Mustangs knocked home a goal in 1-0 Skyline Conference win in Murphy. Sweeper Alondra Ruvalcaba, center midfielder Sandra Villa and center forward Makenzie Christensen keyed the Pirates’ defense, while goalkeeper Emma Truex made eight saves. The Pirates got off five shots. Phoenix is 1-5-1 in the Skyline Conference and will host North Valley on Monday.

The Phoenix girls' soccer team sent a message on Monday! After a winless run through the first half of Skyline Conference play, the Pirates opened the second go-round with a solid 2-0 win over visiting Klamath Union at Colver Field. Sandra Villa scored 12 minutes into the match while Sofie Rodriguez converted an Alondra Ruvalcaba pass into a goal in the 57th minute. Emma Truex had seven saves to pace a strong defensive effort by Phoenix, which improved to 1-4-1 in the conference. The Pirates return to action Thursday, visiting Hidden Valley.

The Phoenix girls’ soccer team wasn’t able to erase an early deficit on Thursday, falling to visiting Mazama 2-1 in Skyline Conference play at Colver Field. The Pirates trailed 2-0 midway through the first half. Makenzie Christensen scored the lone Phoenix goal, heading in a pass from  Alex Hernandez late in the match. The Pirates are 0-4-1 midway through conference play and return to action Monday when they host Klamath Union.

The Phoenix girls' soccer team spent the night trying to score a goal.  It almost happened in the final minute in a match at Henley on Monday. Junior forward Alex Hernandez hit the crossbar from 20 yards out, the final of Phoenix's 10-5 advantage in shots on goal as the Pirates settled for a 0-0 draw in Skyline Conference play in Klamath Falls.  Emma Truex worked the shutout in goal while Makenzie Christensen had a solid all-around game for the Pirates. Phoenix is 0-3-1 in the conference and 2-3-2 overall. The Pirates return to action Thursday, hosting Mazma in a 4:30 pm start at Colver Field.

After scoring first, the Phoenix girls' soccer team was unable to find the goal again in a 3-1 Skyline Conference loss at North Valley on Thursday afternoon. The Pirates drew first blood when Makenzie Christenson headed home a corner kick by Alex Hernandez in the 10th minute of the match. North Valley countered with a goal 10 minutes later before scoring twice in the second half. PHS finished with seven shots on goal. Phoenix (0-3 in the conference and 2-3-1 overall) returns to action Monday at Henley.

The chances were there for the Phoenix girls' soccer team on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Pirates, they weren't able to convert a goal until the game's closing seconds in a 3-1 Skyline Conference loss to Hidden Valley at Colver Field. Phoenix (0-2 in the Skyline, 2-2-1 overall) got its lone goal from Alex Hernandez. The Pirates return to action Thursday, visiting North Valley.

The road can be hazardous to your health in the Skyline Conference. The Phoenix girls' soccer team found that out on Thursday night, dropping a 3-2 decision to Klamath Union. The Pirates trailed 2-0 before picking up goals from Makenzie Christensen in the 55th minute. After another KU goal, Alex Hernandez scored but PHS was unable to get an equalizer. Phoenix is 2-1-1 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Pirates host Hidden Valley on Monday beginning at 4:30 pm at Colver Field.

Pirate Win: 3 - 1
The Phoenix girls' soccer team continued its rise through the state rankings on Thursday. Ranked 10th in the state to start the day, the Pirates climbed to seventh with a convincing 3-1 win over visiting Cottage Grove in a non-conference friendly at Colver Field in Talent. Sofia Rodriguez, Makenzie Christenson and Hailey Lustig scored the Pirate goals. Phoenix, which improved to 2-0-1 on the season, got another solid effort in goal by Emma Truex. The Pirates return to action Thursday when they open Skyline Conference play at Klamath Union.

A year ago, the Phoenix girls' soccer team wasn't ready to deal with larger schools. Tuesday night, the Pirates proved how far they've progressed in a 1-1 tie against 5A Crater in Central Point. Phoenix (1-0-1 on the season) trailed 1-0 when Sandra Villa scored on an assist by Alex Hernandez in the 62nd minute. Both teams threatened in the final 18 minutes but were unable to break the tie. The Pirates dropped a 5-0 decision to Crater last year. Ranked 10th in the state, Phoenix returns to action Thursday, hosting Cottage Grove.   
Long-awaited debut impressive

Pirate Win: 10 - 0
The debut of the Phoenix girls' soccer team was worth the wait! One of the last team's in the state to open the season, the Pirates rolled to a 10-0 non-conference win at Marshfield on Thursday afternoon. Makenzie Christenson led the scoring parade with four goals on the day. Alex Hernandez added a pair while Sandra Villa handed out four assists. Alondra Ruvalcaba set the defensive pace while Emma Truex posted a clean sheet in the goal. The Pirates return to action Tuesday when they visit Crater in a 7 pm kickoff in Central Point.
